For Marian Mead and David Hinge, Millwood Designer Homes’ development Windsor Meadow offered a chance to downsize without compromising on elegance and specification while being able to stay in the village that David’s family had lived in for over three-generations.
Both in their eighties, the retired couple have recently downsized from a large five-bedroom farmhouse to a stunning low maintenance new-build three-bedroom home, less than a mile and a half away from their previous property. Marian explains: “David’s family had lived in the house for three generations and he had been living there on and off since he was seven. As beautiful as the property was, it was getting too much for us and we decided it was the right time to downsize. I spoke to David and said how I thought it was wise to stay in Marden as we have lived here for years and we have made a lot of friends.”
Marian continues: “We looked around at various properties and soon realised that, with old builds, everything we saw we wanted to change. Windsor Meadow had caught my eye, it was in a convenient place with appropriate sized properties and I loved the development as a whole. Initially, David was reluctant about visiting a development but, one day as we were driving home, I spontaneously drove into the development.
“I explained to the sales team that we were looking for a smaller three-bedroom property with a spacious living room and bedroom. They showed us a property type similar to the one we purchased and David was pleasantly surprised so he invited his daughter and son-in-law to come and have a look with us, they thought the property was ideal for us.”
Marian comments: “A while ago we bumped into a couple in the local shop who were also selling their farmhouse. They asked where we were moving to and we mentioned we wanted to move to the Millwood development and the next time we saw them, they had brought a property at Windsor Meadow too. They moved in a while ago as they purchased an established property, whereas we wanted to buy a specific plot so we were willing to wait. After we sold our house last year, we lived in rented accommodation until we moved into our lovely new home in June.”
Marian concludes: “I’m thrilled we were able to find a new house in Marden as we are still able to see our friends, David can still play golf and I can join the local gardening group. Millwood have created a beautiful development that is definitely the best in the area. The property is very well finished, low maintenance and we have a generous sized garden, which is unusual for a new build property. I must say that all of the Millwood team were fantastic also. From the sales team to the site manager, anything I wanted to know, they found out. All our friends that have visited our new home think it’s absolutely amazing and think we’ve made the perfect move.”
