On Monday 17th December 2018, two talented local students from Tunbridge Wells Girls Grammar School and Hillview School for Girls were presented prestigious Excellence Awards by Tonbridge-based homebuilder Millwood Designer Homes. Now in its ninth year, Millwood’s annual Encouragement Pack initiative works with a selection of secondary schools across Kent and East Sussex.
Millwood’s Sales Director, Philip Brown, presented both students Martha Gritt (18) and Eliza Gomershall (18) with a prize of an engraved trophy, as well as a £50 book token and a cheque, for their outstanding school achievements. Philip commented: “Every year, we are pleased to work with both Tunbridge Wells Girls Grammar and Hillview School for Girls, to present awards and congratulate talented local students. Huge congratulations to both Martha and Eliza on their fantastic academic achievements – from everyone at Millwood, we wish them all the best for their future careers.”
18-year-old Tunbridge Wells Girls Grammar student, Martha Gritt, is currently in her first year at Oxford University studying Geography. She comments: “I am so happy to receive the Millwood Designer Homes Award for Geography. It is a subject which I love – I am particularly fascinated by how people live together and the effects we have on our world. I want to thank my teachers and my friends at TWGGS who provided me with a happy environment in which to learn and develop and I am very grateful to Millwood for their generosity.”
Linda Wybar, Headteacher at Tunbridge Wells Girls Grammar comments on Martha’s success: “Martha is an outstanding Geographer who complemented her exemplary achievement of maximum marks at GCSE, with maximum marks at A Level, a very rare feat, making her one of the very top students nationally. Martha consistently demonstrates exceptional commitment and determination, and richly deserves this excellent award.”
Student Eliza Gomershall has also been awarded for her excellent performance at Hillview School for Girls, in three of her creative subjects – Fine Art, Photography and Textile Design. Mr Cavan Pledge, Curriculum Leader for Technology & Visual Arts comments: “Eliza is the consummate Artist and Designer. In studying Textile Design, Photography and Fine Art she has developed a creative fluency that has enabled her to express complex ideas with clarity. Throughout all her A Level Courses she showed the highest levels of commitment and energy, always working with maturity and professionalism. Eliza is greatly deserving of this excellent award.”
Mrs Hilary Burkett, Headteacher, at Hillview School for Girls adds: “We are hugely proud of Eliza and her achievements. To be chosen for this Award is a real honour, of which she should be very proud. Eliza is a very dedicated, committed student who is destined for further success in the future. Our sincerest congratulations go to her on this momentous occasion.”
