Tonbridge based homebuilder, Millwood Designer Homes, has reached its tenth year in awarding students from secondary schools across Kent with its well-renowned ‘Encouragement Pack’ initiative. On Monday 16th December two talented local students from Hillview School for Girls and Tunbridge Wells Girls’ Grammar School were presented with the annually awarded prestigious Excellence Award, for their exceptional school achievements.

Rob Sisley, Millwood’s Finance Director, awarded students, Jasmine Etuate, Hillview School for Girls, and Ruby Llewellyn, Tunbridge Wells Girls’ Grammar School, with a prize of an engraved trophy, a £50 book token, and a £50 cheque, for their outstanding school achievements. Rob commented: “We take great pride in being able to collaborate with Hillview School for Girls, and Tunbridge Wells Girls’ Grammar School, to celebrate the academic achievements of their talented students, and are thrilled to present Millwood’s Encouragement Pack to these hard-working young ladies. From the team and myself – very well done to Jasmine and Ruby, we wish you both the very best of luck in your future endeavours”.

Hillview Schools for Girls’ curriculum leader of Art and Design, Cavan Pledge, comments: “This year’s winner Jasmine Etuate studied Fine Art and Textile Design A Level and BTEC Science. Over the two years of the Fine Art and Textile Design course Jasmine grew in confidence to become one of our most creative students. The enthusiasm and energy that she put into her work was inspiring for both her peers and younger students who were keen to know who made the ‘strange sculptures’ that filled studio 304. Although Jasmine had not studied Textiles Design at GCSE, she used her Art skills to become one of the most innovative Textile students in her year, producing highly creative journals and experimental mixed media sculptural garments. Jasmine is therefore a highly worthy winner of the Millwood Award.”

Since studying at Hillview, Jasmine has subsequently gone on to study Art and Design Foundation at East Sussex College, Hastings. Commenting on her achievement, she said: “I’m so grateful to have been given the Millwood Excellence Award. It pleases me to know that my creativity is appreciated by the people around me. I’d like to thank all my teachers for believing in me, and encouraging me to continue thriving in the subjects I’m passionate about. Thank you to Millwood for your generous prizes.”

Hilary Burkett, Headteacher at Hillview School for Girls remarks on Jasmine’s achievement: “We are immensely proud of Jasmine’s achievements, she is a passionate student who applies herself to her studies with energy, commitment and passion. She rises to challenges and actively experiments across the media range, using this point in her education proactively to explore the breadth of the Art and Textiles genre to produce some outstanding pieces.”

Ruby is currently studying Industrial Design and Technology at Loughborough University. She aspires to gain a career in design and hopes that the course will clarify which path she wishes to take. Ruby comments: “Thank you to Millwood, and to the school, for awarding me with this prize. I care so deeply about the subjects I study, so it’s gratifying to know that my hard work has been recognised. Without the amazing help from my geography teachers, winning this award wouldn’t be possible. I’m very grateful for their hard work and never giving up on me.”

Linda Wybar, Headteacher at Tunbridge Wells Girls’ Grammar comments on Ruby’s success: “We are delighted that Ruby’s outstanding achievement in A-Level Geography has been rewarded with this very special prize, sponsored by Millwood Designer Homes. Both Ruby and her teachers worked incredibly hard to attain such fine grades, and it is lovely to see this recognised in such a positive way. We are most grateful to Millwood for their ongoing sponsorship of this prize.”
