After learning of the fantastic work the Maidstone Hospital’s Kent Oncology Centre do to help patients affected by cancer, we wanted to help them by funding a series of health and wellbeing events for patients who have just finished or continuing treatment.

The Kent Oncology Centre’s Cancer Health and Wellbeing Days, provide the necessary support to patients in managing the transition from active treatment (chemotherapy, radiotherapy, surgery) to ‘normal’ life. The programme includes informative talks on topics including diet, exercise, financial support, emotional well-being, and health awareness.

Each of the health and well-being events are very popular but require funding to run the programme. To help alleviate these financial pressures, we have pledged our support by sponsoring the events with three scheduled so far this year. At the beginning of July, Maidstone Hospital’s Kent Oncology Centre held the first of the three health and well-being events and we were lucky enough to join them for what was a truly humbling day.

Mathew Pellatt-Higgins, Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Manager, commented “The Kent Cancer Centre’s health and well-being days are so important for people affected by cancer so we’re delighted by Millwood’s funding which will help us to provide more emotional and practical support much needed for patients.”

A patient who benefitted from one of the sessions commented on the valuable support they received from attending: “today has been a really useful, informative and supportive environment. Thank you for inviting me”. Another wrote “Many thanks for such an in depth and detailed event.”

Nick Stonley, Managing Director of Millwood Designer Homes, comments: “We are delighted to be supporting the Maidstone Hospital’s Kent Oncology Centre, who provide excellent support to patients and the community. At Millwood, we are extremely passionate about supporting local endeavours to give back to the community.”
