In celebration of English Wine Week, Millwood Designer Homes explores its best development for wine lovers and connoisseurs.
Over the past decade, England has become one of the leading countries for producing wine, with the Home Counties becoming the home of quintessential English wine. Offering the perfect climate of warmer, drier weather with a touch of rain, the Garden of England, Kent houses some of the world’s best winemakers and beautiful English vineyards. This week, to celebrate English Wine Week, we are exploring our collection of homes at The Maltings; situated in the quaint village of Biddenden, and in the middle of some of Kent’s leading vineyards and wineries.
The Maltings is a unique development of one to six bedroom houses, located in the beautiful Kent countryside. The homes perfectly reflect the stunning countryside backdrop, a location ideal for those looking to enjoy a change of lifestyle and enjoy the natural surroundings. Whilst residents can make the most of the local countryside, wine lovers will be thrilled to know that there are plenty of places to enjoy a locally-made tipple close to home.
Just five minutes away, Biddenden Vineyards is Kent’s original vineyard and is a 50 year old family-run business. Specialising in all types of white, red, rose and sparkling wine as well as cider and fruit juice, the vineyard is open all year round for visitors to take part in self-guided walks, wine tasting and private tours to explore the 11 grape varieties on offer. Those residing at The Maltings can look forward to a Sunday afternoon ramble to enjoy a crisp glass of wine, as the vineyard is just over a 30-minute walk away.
In the opposite direction, the Hush Heath Wine Estate is just under a 20 minute drive from The Maltings, and offers a staggering 400 acres of grapevines. Hush Heath is the home of the critically-acclaimed Balfour wines, the official English wine of the London 2020 Olympics and the very first sparkling wine to be served on British Airways first class flights. Residents at The Maltings will be able to enjoy world-class wine on their doorstep, with access to the award-winning Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay wines whenever they choose.
Further afield, Chapel Down winery is one of the best vineyards in England, producing a world-class range of sparkling and still wines, as well as beer, cider and gin. The official supplier to 10 Downing Street and the Oxford and Cambridge Boat Races, guests are able to partake in wine tasting, guided tours, wine masterclasses and can even lease a vine, which includes getting involved with the harvest of the grapes in the autumn.
