Local Margate student, 17-year old Luke Ashfield, was awarded the prestigious Excellence in Construction prize by King Ethelbert School in Birchington-on-Sea, Kent, on Wednesday 21st November 2018. The prize is sponsored and presented by award-winning homebuilder Millwood Designer Homes, as part of its prestigious annual Encouragement Pack initiative, which works with a selection of secondary schools across Kent and East Sussex.
Millwood’s Construction Director, Roy Magro, attended King Elthelbert’s Annual Presentation Ceremony at The Winter Gardens in Margate to celebrate the achievements and talents exhibited by the students. He presented Luke with a prize of an engraved trophy, as well as a £50 book token and a cheque.
Roy Magro, comments: “It is extremely important to engage and support local schools and our annual Encouragement Pack initiative is testament to this. We are now in our ninth year of the awards, which promotes ambition, positivity and encourages students into potential careers within the housebuilding industry. Congratulations to Luke on his academic achievements and we wish him all the best for his future career.”
Vicky Willis, Deputy Head teacher at King Ethelbert School comments: “We are all tremendously proud of Luke’s achievement in Construction. For his work experience in Year 10, Luke undertook a placement with Mears Construction. Luke went on to achieve a BTEC Level 1 Pass in Construction as part of his GCSE studies at King Ethelbert School. Luke showed an enthusiasm and aptitude for a wide variety of construction skills. He worked extremely hard and completed the course early so the school set up a work placement with Robert Maxsted Construction where he excelled as an enthusiastic and determined hard worker. Luke has gone on to East Kent College to further his qualifications in Carpentry. He is a deserving winner of the Millwood School Award. Well done Luke!”
