Harry Fowler, aged 17, from Garlinge, Margate, has been awarded the coveted Excellence in Construction prize by King Ethelbert School in Birchington-on-Sea, Kent. The prize is sponsored by Tonbridge-based homebuilder Millwood Designer Homes, as part of its prestigious annual Encouragement Pack initiative, which works with a number of local schools across Kent and East Sussex.
Harry showed tremendous commitment throughout his BTEC Level 2 Course in Construction and has recently gone on to study a Site Level 2 Carpentry and Joinery course at East Kent College, as well as undertaking an apprenticeship with Cornwall Carpentry. Roy Magro, Millwood’s Construction Director, met Harry on Wednesday 22nd November at Winter Gardens, Margate to present him with his prize of an engraved trophy, along with a £50 cheque and £50 book token.
Vicky Willis, Deputy Head teacher at King Ethelbert School comments: “We are all tremendously proud of Harry’s achievement in Construction. In achieving a BTEC Level 2 Pass in Construction at Thanet Skills Studio, Harry showed an enthusiasm and aptitude for practical work and now has a plan for his future that is both clear and focused. For his work experience in Year 10, Harry undertook a placement with Cornwall Carpentry who were so impressed by him, they said they would definitely want to employ him in the future. Harry is now completing a Site Level 2 Carpentry and Joinery course at East Kent College and true to their word, Harry has an apprenticeship with Cornwall Carpentry linked to his studies. He is a deserving winner of the Millwood School Award. Well done Harry!”
Harry, winner of the Millwood Designer Homes Prize for Construction, comments: “I am very proud to be awarded the Millwood Construction Prize. Studying construction and carpentry has given me a focus and enjoyment that I did not always get from academic subjects at school. I want to thank my teacher at Thanet Skills Studio, Kevin Martin; he has taught me many invaluable skills and his passion for construction has opened up an exciting future for me. Once I become a fully qualified carpenter, I want to work in Liverpool and start up my own business in a few years’ time. Thank you to Millwood for awarding me this prize.”
Millwood currently has a range of individually designed homes available across Kent, Sussex and Surrey.
In Kent, Millwood has recently opened its doors to a beautiful show home at Brambledown in Maidstone and Windsor Meadows in Marden. At The Old Orchard in Sutton Valence, just two three bedroom semi-detached homes remain.
In Sussex, new communities are coming to life at Lavender Fields in Isfield, Monks Meadow in Ardingly and Woodlands View in Hastings, providing a wide range of homes for a spectrum of buyers. Having moved further into Surrey this year, Millwood has current sites, Little Logmore in the bustling town of Dorking and Hops End, in picturesque village of Puttenham.
