Carl Thomas, 17, from Uckfield has been awarded the coveted Excellence in Science prize by Skinners’ School. The prize is sponsored by local housebuilder Millwood Designer Homes as part of the prestigious Encouragement Pack initiative that it runs with a number of schools in Kent and East Sussex.

Says Roger Bee, Skinners’ Deputy Headmaster:

“We are committed to our work in the area of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) and we are proud of our achievements in engineering sustainable solutions. Millwood has been very generous in offering support for this programme, not least in sponsoring the Prize won this year by Carl Thomas. Thank you to Millwood for your generosity; we look forward to continuing this successful relationship in the future.”

Millwood’s Finance & Operations Director Paul Rosbrook met Carl to present him with his prize of a trophy, along with a £50 cheque and £50 book token.

Said Carl: “This prize has always gone to people who have shown particular extra-curricular involvement with the Science department. I received it for my work in STEM, primarily in a project exhibited at the Big Bang Fair, and I’m very grateful to have been chosen as the winner.”
