John Elliott, Managing Director of Millwood Designer Homes assesses the importance of businesses supporting and sponsoring local charities:

Becoming integrated into the community is vital for any business and particularly important for the home building industry. At Millwood, we are extremely passionate about not only developing beautiful homes but also building networks and supporting local endeavours to help strengthen the communities at our developments.

So far this year, we have been proud sponsors of a number of local businesses and charities. 2017 has seen us become Premier Business Partners with West Kent’s Lord’s Taverners, which works to give every child a ‘sporting chance.’ We are also delighted to have recently started a two year sponsorship with Maidstone Rugby Club, one of the oldest clubs in the country which is located just two miles away from our recently launched collection of new homes at Brambledown.

Most recently we have sponsored the statue of a vibrant life-size fibreglass horse named Pebbles for the Herd of the Hospice campaign, which is now proudly on display at our Lavender Fields development in Isfield, Sussex. Organised to raise vital funds for the Hospice in the Weald, the campaign has been designed to create a trail around Kent and East Sussex to showcase the 24 large fibreglass horses and encourage members of the public to share their pictures with the individually designed and decorated horses. Pebbles will remain at the Lavender Fields from July until September, with the horse then being auctioned off to the highest bidder at an event in October.

I believe the charitable element of any company, particularly home-builders, demonstrates an ethical and trustworthy side to the business. We also encourage volunteering and fundraising where possible, as it is a fantastic way to enhance team building amongst all of our staff at Millwood. Bringing colleagues together from different departments is an excellent way to promote team spirit and unity, as we all work together towards a shared goal – to create beautiful homes.
