Millwood Designer Homes’ new Managing Director Nick Stonley discusses the importance of UK Construction Week and the appeal of building a lifelong career in the construction industry.
As the industry gathers to celebrate this year’s UK Construction Week, from 9th to 11th October 2018, the demand for a more skilled and diverse workforce is increasing. The awareness week provides a fantastic opportunity to engage and encourage young people to understand the significance of the construction industry and the various career paths it can provide.
Construction and housebuilding is an ever-evolving industry. With growing demand for new homes and the Government’s targets of building hundreds of thousands more, there has not been a better time to begin a career within the sector. In 2017 alone, almost three million people were working within the sector and the industry as a whole was worth a staggering £164 billion. This is great news and recent industry surveys reveal that job satisfaction across the construction sector remains high.
Raising awareness amongst the younger generation is vital and UK Construction Week enables them to learn what the construction industry has to offer. There is a wide variety of jobs for people ranging in skills and experience, offering a challenging environment to build a successful and rewarding career.
At Millwood, we always encourage young people into the sector, engaging with local schools and organisations in order to build positive relationships and highlight the opportunities and rewards that come with a career in construction.
