With the festive season fast approaching, Millwood Designer Homes looks at what’s on in the vibrant city of Canterbury this Christmas.

It’s November which means Christmas adverts have started to appear on the TV, the shops are stocking up with presents and Christmas is just around the corner. As the holiday season fast approaches, there are various exciting festive experiences popping up around the UK. In Kent, the historical city of Canterbury is home to a wide variety of activities for all the family to enjoy this Christmas time.

Marking the official start of the festive season in the city, the Canterbury Christmas light switch on is held on the 16th November, when the renowned Whitefriars’ Christmas market will open. The market is made up of colourful cabins and stalls offering a selection of delicious festive food and drink, unique handmade gifts, decorations and everything in between.

As well as the selection of stalls at the Christmas market, the popular Whitefriars shopping centre offers a unique shopping experience, providing visitors with an extensive range of high-street retailers, independent shops and super-stores, as well as restaurants and bars, ideal for Christmas shopping. From December 1, Santa and his Grotto will be pitching up home in Whitefriars Square, for children to visit the man himself and put in their last-minute gift wishes.

This year, The Marlowe Theatre is putting on ‘Cinderella’ as their fantastic annual Christmas Pantomime. Oh no they won’t! Oh yes, they will! The Marlowe Theatre is said to be home to one of the best pantomimes in the country – a traditional treat for all the family to get everyone in the spirit.

The stunning historic Canterbury Cathedral sits proudly in the city centre and offers a range of beautiful services and activities including the Advent Carol Service on 2 December and a children’s Wreath Workshop. Beneath its spires, pedestrianised streets are ideal for exploring and strolling. The Kings Mile and Cathedral Quarter is a charming walk for anyone wanting to experience all the centre has to offer.

Canterbury is a truly magical place at Christmas and fantastic location all-year-round. Our new development Polo Field is a 10-minute drive from the centre perfect for residents to take advantage of all the cities Christmas festivities. The new homes offer a family-friendly environment with strong community spirit, especially at this time of year. To get everyone in the spirit, the Farmington show home is being decorated with a beautiful Christmas tree, garlands and wreaths on 13 November.
